If you've uploaded a video in the last month or so, you've probably already noticed that SimTube now supports HD video! Our compression routine now maintains widescreen aspect ratios as well as the visual quality and audio quality that HD video demands (even if videos are not widescreen the visual and audio quality is far greater than in the past). Those who have tested this system for us report that Simtube's encoding beats that of even Youtube, making Simtube the best way to show off your work the way in which you created it, with no compression artifacts to ruin things. Of course, videos that are compressed on your computer for lower-quality viewing will not be magically upsampled :) but even those videos will look better than they would on another video sharing site.
We also raised our upload filesize limit substantially, so you should be able to upload even your longest videos.
We will be tweaking things as we go along but we think we have it just about right. We had to strike a balance between quality and bandwidth, so as to not sacrifice any video or audio quality but at the same time allow viewers without super-fast connections to be able to comfortably view videos without waiting ages to buffer them. But as mentioned above, we think we got it right!
Keep in mind that videos uploaded before the middle of March 2009 were converted under the old non-HD system, so if you'd like to have any of your videos re-encoded using the new HD platform just upload them as a new video then contact us at support (at) flightsimworld.com and let us know you'd like the old one replaced. We'll take care of the rest.
